Landscapes
The landscape types that shape which crops grow where and which biobased materials make sense in each bioregion. NL set seeded from MOOI-NL Handreiking Biobased (ver)bouwen (2023); partner-country sets to follow.
- River landscapesriver
Layered and dynamic landscape with higher levee ridges and lower basin grounds, intersected by rivers, with country estates and forests.
- Urban fringesurban
Transition zone between built environment and landscape, gateway function for city dwellers, high diversity of uses and user pressure.
- Peat landscapespeat
Open, water-rich landscapes with peat soils, characterised by a pattern of ditches and parcels, now mainly grassland for livestock.
- Sandy landscapessand
Higher sandy soils with a mosaic of arable land, grasslands and wet/dry nature reserves, intersected by stream valleys; ~35% of all Dutch nature.
Flat, open landscapes with meandering dikes, former tidal creeks and a strict parcel pattern; intensive large-scale arable farming.
